Well done to Tony Hare & Tony McConville for competing in the Newry 3 Day, the boys put in a great performance with Tony Hare in the Break of the stage on the first night only to be caught with 5 miles to go to the finish, he managed to hold on to the tail of the bunch as it went by on the final climb to come in only 2 minutes down on the yellow jersey, Tony McConville was still finding his legs and even though he did not get out of the bunch he was able to finish in the front group.

Stage 2 was the 3 laps of the hill town circuit followed by the climbs of Reed Hall and Elm Hall. The boys finished in the main bunch waiting for the time trial in the afternoon.

After a relaxing day in the sun the boys came to the starting line of the TT relaxed and prepared, both put in great times but as with everyone where blown away with McCrystals time of 9,01 into a headwind (savage).

The final day the plan was to go for a stage victory by trying to get away in the early break, Hare followed the plan to perfection and jumped clear just before Newcastle, however with only two companions in the break it was going to be hard to stay ahead especially with the horsepower behind. The break came to an end on the steep castlewellan hill and unfortunately for tony he had put all the eggs in the one basket and was unable to continue the remainder of the stage, Big Tony MConville on the other hand had kept his powder dry and climbed brilliantlly with the mountain goats to finish in a respectable GC place overall.

Well done to the bike pure boys who where with us all weekend and we helped each other out, great weekend with no pregnant doging or yapping, just honest blokes who just wanted to enjoy their bike and the camaradery of a stage race, it would have been nice if it had been with 6 Apollo riders instead of 2 Apollo and 4 bike pure but there is always next year!

Thanks to Cathal and Campbell who were on the road on Saturday showing their support, the boys appreciated it

Well done to Tony Hare & Tony McConville who competed in the Newry 3-Day over the weekend. Tony McC finished 34th overall, just over 8 minutes off 1st place. Unfortunately Tony H finished outside the finishing time for the last stage (Not sure of the reason as of yet). Well done guys!

Also, thanks to Marty R for organising the weekend and looking after the guys. It’s never an easy job and it’s always appreciated!

Well, the club racing and Dave kane TT leagues have started, with Apollo riders already figuring in the results. Tony Hare & Davey Quinn placed first in the Dromara 2Up Time Trial (Good work lads!). Tony McConville posted a 23.41 @  Toome, with Junior doing  24.51 on a slighly changed but hard course. With these only being the first events of the season, the guys are showing good promise for the events ahead.

Well, a quieter week was in store for Apollo results wise, however there were guys present in all 3 of the weekends races. Tony Hare & Kieran Mulholland were riding strongly and finished in the bunch in the John Moore Memorial. Unfortunately Junior had to pull out due to feeling unwell (Take it easy and get yourself better!).

On Sunday there were two races in the JP Logan event, with Andy Parkes finishing in the ‘B’ race bunch and Enda McDaid/Mary Rodgers just failing to finish. Tony Hare rode strongly in the ‘A’ race, in which East Antrim dominated, with Davey Quinn and Joni McGlade falling out of the bunch towards the end of the race.

Good going guys, plenty of potential showing on what are two very hard courses, and definitely the hardest courses of the year so far!

Tony Hare @ Newry 2010Well, the Hare Bear’s good form seems to be building having gotten 4th at the weekend in Newry. The 3rd Cats & 2nd Cats were able to hold off the 1sts and with it comming down to a bunch sprint, Tony got 4th place. Marty also got 6th in the ‘B’ race sprint. This bodes well for the rest of the year if the guys can build on their form. There was also strong showing from Tony McConville, Davy Quinn, Andy Parks, Enda McDaid & Campbell Armstrong.

Keep her lit lads and hopefully a wee article will appear in the Lurgan Mail over the next week or so!!

Well, that’s the first weekend of racing over and things are looking promising for the season ahead. Tony Hare grabbed 8th in Annaclone in the ‘A’ race whilst Andy McGibbon took 4th 3rd at Nutts Corner in the ‘B’ race (Not bad for 10 years out!). Congrats to both guys and hope the form continues…

Unfortunately we also had some bad news in that Conor Judge had a run in with a dog and took a bit of a spill. I’ll not go into it much here, but hope you recover quickly (from all the club)!
