The first road race of the 2011 Inter Club League ran tonight on the Annaghmore circuit, with Apollo putting in a strong showing. With scratch not catching the rest of the field, it was left down to the sprinters to do the damage, with Marty Rodgers taking the win over Junior McAuley. Conor Judge came in 5th, with Fred McSorley grabbing 7th after his win at the weekend in the McCann Cup @ Seskinore [See the article here.]. Campbell Armstrong came in behind Fred in 8th. This is very promising with a number of riders showing some early season form, hopefully it will be a successful season! The results are as follows:

1st Marty Rogers               Apollo                   11 pts
2nd Junior McAuley          Apollo                   10 pts
3rd G McVeigh                  Island wheelers      9 pts
4th Jerome Donnelly         Clan Eireann         8 pts
5th Conor Judge                Apollo                    7 pts
6th Kenny McConaghy     Clan Eireann        6 pts
7th Fred McSorley            Apollo                    5 pts
8th Campbell Armstrong Apollo                     4 pts
9th C McGuigan               Island Wheelers    3 pts
10th A lafferty                   Island Wheelers    2 pts

The Calendar for ther 2011 mid ulster league has now been agreed and is now on the website here, as you can see there has been very little change to the 2010 league except that it now only includes 3 clubs as Orchard are not taking part so each club will have 7 events to organise. Also a few small changes have been made and they are:

1) A separate ladies and possibly junior trophy will be up for grabs in 2011,this will be competed for on a handicap basis

2) The hill climb will incorporate two other events on 3 nights in a row in July which will be completely separate from the league and will have separate prizes, full format of the 3 day will be worked out over the next few months, your input will be greatly appreciated

3) The first 5 events will start at the normal time of 7pm, the events will then start at 7.30pm until August when the time will revert back to 7pm. This is aimed at making it possible for more people to get to races after their work day

4) At the end of the league at the presentation night people attending will be asked to vote for the rider who has shown the best fair play attitude over the season. The person with the most votes will receive the league fair play award

5) Entry fee will remain at £2 for all riders

The above new format is in addition to the existing rules of the league that have been in place for a few years. Clubs are asked to provide 3 names per TT event and 4 per road race to myself to put on the sheet as race organisers. I have taken the liberty of putting names to all Apollo events. If anyone can not do a particular event please contact me as soon as possible so that I can make amendments. No amendments will be made during the running of the league so if you are then unable to help out it is your responsibility to get your own replacement

The final edition of the Inter-Club League results are available here. Michael Murry Jr (Clann) took the over-all title, with it being a bit of a lean year for Apollo with only Davy Quinn figuring in any of the categories.

Thanks to everyone who raced wore a marshal bib ,collected results or took results at the line, great racing in 2010. Good luck for next year and I hope you all have a good winter. Remember this league is designed to get the best out of local riders so they go on to compete at open races with a better knowledge of racing technics.
