Committee Minutes - March 2010

Venue: Goodyear social club
Time: 8pm
Attendance: Marty Rogers, Joni McGlade, Paddy Hoy, Tony Hare, Tony McConville
Apologies: Paul McCormick, Fred McSorley

1) Club licences have arrived and most of racing members have collected theirs, All remaining licences can be collected from Marty Rogers

2) Committee members are again reminded to download the child protection form from Cycling Ulster, we are still the only club who have no members vetted.

3) Club clothing has still not arrived and have not been shipped from Italy yet, this will cause a further delay of at least 2 weeks, Tony has approached various local suppliers regarding leisure wear but is still at the costing phase of this proposal.

4) Marty has received nominations from Clan Eireann and Orchard for officials to run their events, just to remind everyone the league will have 4 clubs competing this year, a number of clubs were considered between the 3 clubs this year and after a vote of 2-1 it was decided to invite Island wheelers to take part in this years league on a trial basis, this will have no bearing on the general running of the league as Island wheelers have agreed to run events on the mid ulsters leagues existing courses so it should make for increased numbers and more competition which should add to an already successful league.

5) The committee have agreed to pre enter a full team to the Newry 3 day, if the criteria is for a 5 man team then the committee will enter a team immediately with names to follow. All members of the club are encouraged to support this event either as putting yourself forward for selection as a rider, offering your services as support or just coming down for the weekend to support your team. The club will try this event out as Team building event with criteria for selection onto the team and social events around the weekend to be put up for discussion. The event is scheduled for the weekend of 18th June and everyone is encouraged to put forward their suggestions for the event.

6) Discussions where held around the merits of the club having a pay pal account to assist with fee collection for club clothing or pre entry for races. It as decided that due to the timing of our event the Billy Stewart at the end of the season we would not be doing a pre entry.

7) All will be now aware of the lucky escape of our club member Conor Judge who crashed his bike while out training on Sunday, from the picture of the bike Conor was very fortunate to come of with just a few cuts and bruises, it is a timely rminder to all of us to think of the basic safety measures when out cycling:

    a) always wear a helmet
    b) remember high visibility clothing and good lights while out at night
    c) be aware of fellow road users and always obey the rules of the road
    d) keep you bike in good mechanical order with good tyres and working brakes

The committee feel that it would do no harm to run a night were basic first aid will be taught and maybe get an expert on the highway code to discuss what to do in the event of accidents, we have these experts within the club membership and the committee will approach them with a view to running such a night.

Meeting ended at 9pm with next meeting scheduled for May 3rd due to the Easter Holiday in April
